Is Booster Juice REALLY That Healthy For You?

Booster Juice promotes itself as a healthy alternative and with a menu that includes wheatgrass, protein, and herbal supplements,  I would assume they're right.  But with all their smoothies containing 4 servings of fruit or more, you have to take into consideration the high sugar levels, and high sugar levels equal high calories.

It all comes down to your choice of smoothie flavour. A regular size of Funky Monkey contains 512 calories. It mostly consists of chocolate soy milk and bananas, but it's the equivalent to a Quarter Pounder with cheese! To be fair, I've had a very in-depth look at the Booster Juice nutrition guide and overall these smoothies range from 262 - 512 calories, and that's in regular 12 oz. sizes. That's not bad! And when in doubt, go for the the snack size. Reader's Digest Best Health recommends Banana Beach. This is the healthiest smoothie available. "And with an added protein booster, the balanced nutrients in this drink means your blood sugar will not rise too quickly and you will be satisfied longer after consuming it. Banana Beach also provides you with 30 percent of your daily vitamin C needs. "

Wheat grass shots are another extremely healthy option Booster Juice offers. What a powerful superfood wheatgrass can be, with over 50 health benefits, wheatgrass can:
  • Improve blood sugar disorders
  • Prevent tooth decay
  • Wash drug deposits from the body
  • Neutralize toxins in the body
  • Help purify the liver
  • Help slow down the aging process

I can go on forever, but to learn more of the benefits of wheat grass click here. Personally, I will be taking at least a shot a day starting now.

Is Booster Juice REALLY that healthy for you? YES! Please excuse the calories, and remember they are good calories! What do you think about Booster Juice as a healthy alternative? Did I miss any other healthy benefits or points? Let me know!

Franchising a Booster Juice

A Booster Juice franchise could be an extremely lucrative business to own.  Although, you would have to have some business sense. The key to a successful business comes from thriving to increase sales and profit while maintaining a low cost of business (labour and material). With the right business savvy individual and a good store location, opening a Booster Juice wouldn't be the worst idea in the world.

There are many benefits of opening a Booster Juice, especially in comparison to competitive juice bars. Entrepreneur Magazine ranked Booster Juice number 2 in the juice bar category. It is an increasingly popular smoothie chain that is expanding globally from Canada to the U.S, and it is now in India and Mexico. The company's next move is to dominate the U.K. Booster Juice is a widely recognized juice bar brand, might as well invest in what people know and want when it comes to their smoothie needs. Another major benefit to opening a Booster Juice franchise, according to this Booster Juice Franchise Reviewis that Booster Juice headquarters help Regional Directors produce franchise sales leads to help them meet their quotas.  Which means you are not totally alone in acquiring sales within your business. Booster Juice also offers the turnkey approach, which means the store is ready to open as soon as you get the key, they provide everything you need to start. Which is awesome because it gives the new franchise owner a chance to hire employees and handle training.

The question now is, what exactly do you need to open a Booster juice. There's six major steps:
  1. Have a net worth of $350k and $100k in liquid assets
  2. Have $20k franchise fee
  3. Turnkey cost $214,500 - $244,500
  4. Total estimated initial investment $234,500 - $264,500
  5. Expect to pay 6% of gross sales towards royalty fees
  6. Dedicate 10 years term of franchise agreement
So, if you've got hundreds of thousands of dollars in the bank and you're looking for an investment opportunity, why not explore the possibilities through Booster Juice. If you had the money what franchise would you purchase? Leave your comments below.

Healthy and Safety Violations at a Toronto Booster Juice Location

I hate to start this blog entry of my beloved Booster Juice on a such a negative note, but
some light needs to be shed on what is going on in regards to health and safety at a local Booster Juice in Toronto. The Toronto Star brought it to our attention that the Booster Juice in Yorkdale Shopping Center, was given a conditional pass from Toronto Public Health inspectors. Apparently, this particular Booster Juice establishment did not keep hazardous food below a set temperature limit, they failed to wash their equipment properly and could not manage to maintain the correct food safety procedures.

YUCK! As a semi-regular customer at this Booster Juice, I can not help but think of the potentially contaminated Tropical Tornado smoothie I may have consumed within the past couple of months. The hypochondriac in me wonders if that cold I had back in December was caused by unwashed blenders and warm frozen yogurt. The rational side of me wonders if an establishment like Booster Juice, whose entire menu consists of mostly frozen fruits, yogurt and milk can really become that hazardous. Unfortunately, the dairy products could be a big issue if they are not kept a the right temperature. Sorry, Booster Juice, I tried! The best thing to do is avoid this location for now, there is over 50 other locations in the Greater Toronto Area.

What do you think about this Booster Juice's health and safety violations? Would you still order from this location?
